In the Old Testament, the Lord commanded Noah, "Make thee an Ark..." Along with building the ark, Noah was also commanded to, "...take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee..." (Genesis 6;14 & 21)
Noah made a covenant with God by doing what the Lord commanded. In that covenant, God promised that if Noah and his family followed God's commands they would be saved from the great flood.
In modern times we have been told to store food, get out of debt, and be self reliant. President Ezra Taft Benson said, "The revelation to store food may be as essential to our temporal salvation today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah”.
It seems like we see almost daily in the news that a new disaster has happened somewhere in the world. Tornadoes, Tsunamis, Wildfires, and Earthquakes have all caused a great deal of damage and many deaths in recent history. Then there are the "man-made" disasters, or as they are better known,Terrorist Attacks. Not all of these attacks are on foreign soil. According to a report from the Department of Homeland Security, "the number and pace of attempted attacks against the United States over the past nine months have surpassed the number of attempts during any other previous one-year period." reports CNN.
What it all comes down to is NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE! God commanded Noah to build the ark BEFORE it started to rain. Whether you think it's a commandment or not, wouldn't you rather be prepared in the event of a disaster?
